The Kids

May 25, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve posted some photos of the kids. Not because I haven’t taken any, I have so many I may need to invest in more dedicated storage for the kids photos. They’re getting so big and doing so many new things it’s hard to keep up…I get sleepy just thinking about it. Looking at these photos though gives me a boost and makes me thankful I have them. Here are just a couple from yesterday.

About me

February 9, 2010

Here are some completely random and true facts about me. There’s lots more, so maybe I’ll make this a running list and add on at a later date.

• Chicken or Steak – For sure steak , I like mine medium
• Coke or Pepsi – Coke every time, there is no substitute
• Jube Jubes or Gummi bears – Jube Jubes, I have to have a supply of these near my desk, especially on long editing sessions
• Gas or Electric stove – Gas, my parents always had one growing up and I don’t think I could ever like electric, I love my gas stove
• Electric tooth brush or manual – Electric, ever since I got it I kept wondering why I didn’t get one sooner
• Winter or Summer – Summer, I live for the summer months and love the heat
• Chips or Popcorn – Popcorn all day, I’ve been going old school lately and popping it on the stove in a large pot. Add the extra butter and salt and I’m good to go
• Electric shaver or blade – I love my electric, it’s sharp, fast and doesn’t irritate my skin like a new blade. From time to time I don’t mind using the blade though
• MMA or NBA – I love MMA, I’ve been a huge fan for a long time, but I still love to watch an NBA game when I get the chance
• Email or phone – I don’t mind email but prefer the phone. I just feel like I can feel and make a much better connection with people if we can chat. I just thinks it’s more personable. Having said that I’d much rather chat with clients face to face
• TV or movies – I really don’t have that many TV shows that I have to watch – except for LOST. I love watching movies as a way to wind down and of course have to have my Coke and popcorn
• Cake or Ice Cream – Both, why not have the best of both worlds
• Casual or formal – I really don’t mind dressing up but when I’m hanging out it’s jeans and a shirt for me. For weddings I wear black dress shoes, black dress pants and a nice shirt
• Juice or Water – I drink a lot of water during the day, but first thing in the morning I have a glass of juice
• Coffee or Tea – No thanks, not for me
• Finally, Mr. Roper or Mr. Firley – Firley was a little too weird for me, and I preferred Mr. Roper

Christmas day recap

December 27, 2009

We had a great day on Christmas and every year now Jayden seems to be getting more excited, and who could blame him. It’s so much fun now to see him get so excited, it reminds me of when I was that age and used to get so excited to see all the presents under the tree. We’re so lucky to have everything that we do and for sure the best present this year was the birth of our little girl. I hope everyone had a great time with their family and friends. Here are some photos from the opening ceremonies.

I hope everyone has a great time over the holidays and please stay safe.

All the best.

Christmas Photos

December 21, 2009

The other day I had my studio lights setup as I was finishing a job that required some product shots for a local business, and I thought it would be a good chance to get a few photos of my wife and the kids. Now that Jayden has reached the age where his attention span is roughly 4 seconds and getting him to sit quietly is not an option, these photos are what they are.

When working with kids, there is no sense in forcing the issue, and looking at these I would much rather see his real expressions than fake ones, so here you go.001 Christmas Photos

We made Frosty the Snowman

December 14, 2009

Yesterday after the morning rain, I had chance to go outside with Jayden for our first attempt ever at making Frosty and the family. I ended up doing most of the labour as usual but under his close supervision of course.  I grabbed these quickly with the little point and shoot camera, and as you can see we only finished one before it got too dark.  Hopefully we’ll finish off the mommy, little brother and baby soon.

Oh baby!

October 14, 2009

Here are some recent shots of the kids and one of yours truly with my little girl. I really can’t believe how fast they’re growing and it’s even crazier when we compare them both now.

I’d also like to say thanks to everyone that told me how life changes completely when you have two kids…you weren’t kidding. Our schedule is completely out of whack because she’s up every three hours or so but it is what it is. I don’t think I could ever get tired of holding her in my arms.

Having said that I will be making some changes to my schedule and will be shifting gears business wise within the coming months. I will be concentrating my attention more on wedding photography, rather than my portrait work. Over the last couple of years my love for wedding photography has grown so much that it’s all I think about. The amount of fun and creative freedom I get from shooting a wedding is hard to describe. I will still do the odd portrait session but on much more limited basis.

In the meantime, enjoy these and I’ll be sure to post more soon.

She’s home

September 14, 2009

Well we finally brought our little girl home after she had a three week stay in the Intensive Care Unit. It seemed forever and it still hasn’t really hit me yet that she’s here but I’m sure that won’t take long. Here are some of my favourite images over the last few weeks.

As you’ll see I’m absent from all of these photos as I’m the designated photographer in the family – go figure. Not to worry as I’ll post much more in the coming weeks and for sure some with daddy and his little girl.

Happy Birthday!

August 31, 2009

Wow what a week! First we had the birth of our daughter and yesterday was our son Jayden’s 3rd birthday. Where does the time go? If anyone knows please let me know!

I absolutely love seeing the look on his face when he gets excited, it reminds me of when I was small and I used to get so excited to open my presents. It’s amazing how the smallest things can make a toddler so happy. I’m not talking about presents and stuff but just seeing his birthday balloons and knowing that his mom would be home from the hospital and that his grandparents would be there. Of course he got lots of presents and a Thomas train track set. We also had lots of pizza, fries, cake and ice cream. We just had to remind him of the fact that he’s not to expect that dinner everyday…just on birthdays.

I know he’s only known her for a few days now but I know he misses his little sister already and he can’t wait to get her home.

It’s a girl!

August 24, 2009

I can vividly remember the two greatest moments in my life. The first was the birth of our son Jayden and the second happened yesterday morning with the birth of our little girl Alayna.

I know I haven’t posted much of the back-story on my wife’s pregnancy and I think due to the circumstances it was too difficult and stressful to talk about. There are so many thoughts and emotions going on right now and due to the lack of sleep it is difficult to concentrate but I’m not going to complain after what my wife and baby girl had to go through. In short, my wife spent approximately 6-7 weeks in hospital on bed rest orders mostly in Toronto at Women’s College, and the whole time we felt terrified that everything would happen too soon. Recently she was moved to Lakeridge Health and thankfully much closer to home. It was really difficult having her away and tremendously difficult for Jayden being away from his mom. I’m not sure how and probably never will but he eventually seemed to understand the situation and was amazing through the whole thing. Even though my wife isn’t home yet, I know he understands that his mom and baby sister will join us soon.

I couldn’t write about this and not take a moment to thank some very special people. I don’t feel that simply saying thank you is enough but it’s all I can do for now. On behalf of my wife and I, I’d like to say thank you to all of the staff at Women’s College in Toronto. I’d also like to thank the staff at Lakeridge Health that delivered our little miracle and continue to care for her. Lastly I’d like to thank our friends and co-workers for their love and support and especially our parents that helped us and continue to help us get through this. I’m always the type of person that will decline help when offered, and I’d like to think that I could handle almost anything alone. I’ll be the first person to admit here that there is no possible way we could have gotten through this without our parents help and we’ll be forever grateful for that.

Today I held my little girl for the first and she is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m still not sure how someone so small and so perfect could have such a hold on a grown man. I feel so bad for her that she has to be hooked up to all of that equipment and it tears at me to see her in the incubator but I’m really looking forward to the day we’ll all be together.
