We’re finally at that time of year where the weather is getting better and I can finally get out and starting shooting engagement sessions again. Here are some of my favourite images from a recent engagement session with Cara and Joel. They were so fun to work with as they are both really easy going and
and willing to try any of my ideas. Joel even put in a lot of extra work to get his rare Toyota MR2 in top shape for a few shots which was really cool, and of course Cara looks amazing posing on it.

I’m really looking forward to the wedding in the fall, so enjoy these photos for now.

You’re engaged!

November 9, 2009

First off, let me say congratulations on your engagement. This can and will be a very exciting time for couples but now what do you do? You know you need a wedding photographer and you’ve seen my site and you would like to know more.

First, feel free to give me a call or send a message and give me some details about your day. I’ll check to see my availability for your wedding date and then we can setup a date and time to meet.

Then we would have a pre-wedding consultation; this is where we can discuss your plans and what is most important to you on your day. For a lot of couples this can be a little overwhelming so I’ll offer some sound advice so that all the important moments are captured on your day. I’ll also work with you to create a package that will give you adequate coverage and also answer any questions about pricing, albums, digital files and wall portraits for example. If you decide you’d like to become my client, then we’ll go over a contract and with your $500 retainer cheque your wedding date will be secured.

Next, we will set up an engagement session. The engagement session is one of the most important parts of wedding photography. It allows us to “warm up” and it gives us a chance to really get to know each other, and what we can expect from one another on wedding day. This is a really fun session that takes about 1.5 hours.

I will be in contact with you several times between the engagement session and the wedding. Just to make sure everything is going ok. A few weeks before the wedding date, we’ll get together for the last time before the wedding to discuss any last minute plans and just make sure that we’re all on the same page.

On your wedding day I want you to enjoy your day as much as possible and not worry about the photography, let me take care of that. We will already know what to expect from each other from the engagement session and previous meetings and we can just flow together, let the day happen and enjoy ourselves.

If this sounds interesting please let me know and we can set up an appointment to talk more about your plans.

When I first met with Nicole and Melwin they told me that they might need a little help at the session in terms of what to do and where to look etc. I said no problem, just be yourselves. I really didn’t want to take them out of their element and turn them into someone they’re not, and my goal is to always show the connection that they share with each other.

For the engagement session we went to Guild Park in Scarborough which is an awesome location, minus the raging mosquito population. The next time I have a session there I may have to soak the couple in mosquito repellent before we start. Seriously though, Nicole and Melwin were both great and in the end didn’t need my help at all.

Here are a few of my favourite images from the session, enjoy.

I had the chance to meet up with Morgan and Jordan in their hometown of Lindsay recently to photograph their engagement session. With most couples I usually have to tell them to have fun, relax, have a laugh with each other etc, but with Morgan and Jordan they didn’t need any help from me. These two were right at home and I think at some points forgot I was even there icon smile Morgan & Jordan – Engagement Session I think they look great together and I’m really looking forward to their summer wedding.

There are so many photos from the session and it’s hard to pick just a few to share, but here are some of my favourites.

This past week I had a chance to photograph an engagement session with Amber and Chris and we had a great time, and the weather actually cooperated! I’m so lucky to work with couples that know how to have fun with each other and are easy going and Amber and Chris are no exception.

My goal with these sessions is obviously to create amazing images for my clients, but more importantly I’m trying to build a connection with my couple and make them feel relaxed not only in front of the camera but with me. Ultimately I’m trying to show the bond between them and I think you can feel that when you look at Amber and Chris together.

I’m really looking forward to their wedding next month, and I’ll post their slideshow here shortly, but for now have a look at these teasers from their session.

I had a chance to spend some time this past weekend with Erin and Kevin up at their family cottage and it was amazing. I’m not one that typically enjoys a drive, but I found driving up to their cottage really relaxing. There’s something about being surrounded by huge forests, water and most likely the clean air that puts you in a different space.

When I first met with Erin and Kevin we began to discuss ideas for their engagement session. They told me about their cottage and how much it meant to them and their extended family and it was a great idea. The area is filled with beautiful scenery and most importantly the cottage has so much personal history and special memories for them it was a clear choice.

Erin and Kevin really do have that special bond that goes beyond words. You can see, and feel it when they both look at each other. They both were a blast to work with as they have so much fun with each other and that’s what a great session is all about.

Here are just a few samples from their session.
