Here are some of my favourite images from a recent engagement session with Debbie & Todd at Cullen Gardens in Whitby. Both Debbie and Todd are lovers of the outdoors and it seemed fitting to have their session there. During the session I could also see how they connected they were and made for each other. I’m looking forward to their wedding next month so be sure to check back for more photos then.

The Kids

May 25, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve posted some photos of the kids. Not because I haven’t taken any, I have so many I may need to invest in more dedicated storage for the kids photos. They’re getting so big and doing so many new things it’s hard to keep up…I get sleepy just thinking about it. Looking at these photos though gives me a boost and makes me thankful I have them. Here are just a couple from yesterday.

Over the weekend I had the chance to spend some time with Kira & Greg who came down from Ottawa for their engagement session in Whitby. They’ll be getting married this summer in the area and I can’t wait to cover their wedding as they have an amazing day planned. I love being with couples that are both comfortable with each other and willing to go along with any of my ideas and Kira & Greg are no exception.

We went a little longer than I expected and as usual I shot a tonne of images and there were so many images to choose from but here are a few of my favourite from their session.

I’ve mentioned before that I really feel that engagement sessions are a great way for everyone to prepare for their wedding day. If anything, it’s a way for you and your fiance to get out and enjoy each other for a couple of hours and get amazing images at the same time.

I feel so strongly about them, that I’m still currently including an engagement session in all of my collections. Depending on what type of personalities you and your fiance have will really determine how the session plays out. For example, some couples are more playful and energetic, calm and casual, sappy romantic, or fashion oriented (just kidding about the romantic). Regardless of how you are, there is no right or wrong. It’s just important to be true to yourself and not pretend to be someone else, as this will be really evident and ultimately you want to have a great time and love the photos.

Next you and your fiance will want to choose a location. Some couples will simply pick a place around their town which appeals to them and their style. You may want to go to a specific place that is meaningful to your relationship such as where you had your first date, a favorite park, or hot spot. Other things to consider is the season when you will be photographed and also the time of day. So have fun and get creative! If anything, I will certainly make suggestions based on your tastes and personalities.

Now that you have picked the style you are going for and the location, it is time to figure out what to wear. While there are some general rules like no stripes or huge logos etc, have fun picking out outfits that make you look fabulous and make you feel great. Sometimes it is a good idea to bring a few different options, and you can change half way through, and in that way you will have a larger selection of amazing photos if you do.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and if you would like to chat further I’d love to hear from you. Engagement sessions are one of my absolute favourite sessions to cover and if you’re willing to put yourself out there and have fun then I promise you we’ll have a great time together.
