Maternity Portraits

January 20, 2010

I had the chance recently to visit with our friends Cheri and Dave who are expecting their second baby any day now. It seems like just yesterday we were in the same position and it’s definitely a nervous and exciting time for them. I’m really looking forward to seeing the baby and wish you guys all the best.

What’s the first thing you’ll do when you get on your computer after your wedding? Of course you’ll hit facebook or twitter and want to post photos from your wedding day. Maybe you’ll want to send an email to someone to show off some of your wedding photos. The trouble is that if you’ve received digital files from your wedding, the file sizes are huge and your computer is probably not as fast as you’d like and you don’t want to spend hours in front of the computer to upload them. What do you do?

For those couples that have already booked with me this year you’re taken care of. If you’re planning a wedding and would like more information on digital files etc and the social media package, please give me a call and I’ll tell you about the details.

When was the last time you had a professional photo session? For most people, the answer is most likely never and that’s ok.  However, when it comes to your wedding photographs you probably don’t want that to be your first time working with your photographer.  The wedding engagement photo session is the answer of course and it will accomplish many things.

I have found that the best photographs are created once I have developed a connection with my couple and this first takes place during our initial wedding consultation. Now it’s common for everyone to sit down and have a chat with someone else and we may develop a connection, but once the cameras come out it’s an entirely different story. At the start of the session I want to get you as relaxed as possible and I need your trust that we’ll create some great images.  At the session it’s really not about me and I don’t what my clients to feel that they have to be concerned with me the entire time.  I want you to enjoy each other and let that comfort level that you have with your fiancé to show through in the images that we create.

Here are some of the key reasons for the session:

  • We’ll get to spend time together. We’ll chat in between shooting which will help us get to know each other, and I’ll also get to see how you respond to each other.  There are some couples that will be completely outgoing while others may be more reserved.
  • Couples get to spend time in front of a camera, which can be an uncomfortable situation for many people.  It can be hard to relax and act naturally which leads to stiff and awkward photographs.  The engagement session can help reduce camera anxiety allowing the couple to be more natural on their wedding day.
  • Seeing amazing photographs of yourselves will give you confidence that your wedding photographs will be equally beautiful. It’s one less thing to worry about on your wedding day.
  • You get to see and experience how I work which gives you an idea of what to expect on the day.
  • Last but not least of all, it’s also a great deal of fun.

For those couples that feel wedding photographs are important to them it is a good idea to invest the extra time and money in having a pre-wedding shoot.  This is the reason that I currently include an engagement session in all of my weddings.  If you have any questions or would like to discuss further, I’d love to hear from you.

Get real close

January 2, 2010

This year I’m going to start shooting more images for myself. Sometimes I just need to get out and clear my mind and shoot without pressure. Here are some random shots from around the house using the Nikon 60mm Micro lens, which is a great lens for getting really close to the subject and getting great detail. I’m definitely going to be using this lens more this year for those detail shots at the wedding.
