This past weekend I had the chance to be with Bev & Robb for their awesome wedding at the Whitby Marina Clubhouse. The weather has been crazy hot the last week or so and Saturday while not as humid, was still hot enough that we needed to get Bev an additional fan in the morning to cool down. Brides take note that your wedding dress can make you hotter (literally)! Bev took it in stride and along with Robb both had a great day with their friends and loving family.

They had the ceremony outside of the Whitby Marina clubhouse where they are avid sailors and then we had some time are the Whitby pier for some more photos and play. I wish you both all the best, and here are some sample photos from the day.

Being a wedding photographer there are a number of things I can control at a wedding and there are even more than I can’t. As much as I wish I could change this fact, the weather unfortunately falls under the later of the two.

This past Sunday I had the chance to photograph the wedding of Debbie and Todd in Ashburn and we were all a little nervous in looking at the forecast which called for rain and lots of it. One of the main things I always remind my clients is that through it all, you have to have fun, enjoy yourself, stay positive and Debbie and Todd took that to another level. At the begining of the day, it looked as though we’d have a wet wedding and not once did either of them mention it or look down. You guys are amazing. It turned out to be great day, the weather turned out to be great and everyone had a great time.

Here are some of my favourite images from their day.

Here are some of my favourite images from a recent engagement session with Debbie & Todd at Cullen Gardens in Whitby. Both Debbie and Todd are lovers of the outdoors and it seemed fitting to have their session there. During the session I could also see how they connected they were and made for each other. I’m looking forward to their wedding next month so be sure to check back for more photos then.

The Kids

May 25, 2010

It’s been a while since I’ve posted some photos of the kids. Not because I haven’t taken any, I have so many I may need to invest in more dedicated storage for the kids photos. They’re getting so big and doing so many new things it’s hard to keep up…I get sleepy just thinking about it. Looking at these photos though gives me a boost and makes me thankful I have them. Here are just a couple from yesterday.

Over the weekend I had the chance to spend some time with Kira & Greg who came down from Ottawa for their engagement session in Whitby. They’ll be getting married this summer in the area and I can’t wait to cover their wedding as they have an amazing day planned. I love being with couples that are both comfortable with each other and willing to go along with any of my ideas and Kira & Greg are no exception.

We went a little longer than I expected and as usual I shot a tonne of images and there were so many images to choose from but here are a few of my favourite from their session.

I’ve mentioned before that I really feel that engagement sessions are a great way for everyone to prepare for their wedding day. If anything, it’s a way for you and your fiance to get out and enjoy each other for a couple of hours and get amazing images at the same time.

I feel so strongly about them, that I’m still currently including an engagement session in all of my collections. Depending on what type of personalities you and your fiance have will really determine how the session plays out. For example, some couples are more playful and energetic, calm and casual, sappy romantic, or fashion oriented (just kidding about the romantic). Regardless of how you are, there is no right or wrong. It’s just important to be true to yourself and not pretend to be someone else, as this will be really evident and ultimately you want to have a great time and love the photos.

Next you and your fiance will want to choose a location. Some couples will simply pick a place around their town which appeals to them and their style. You may want to go to a specific place that is meaningful to your relationship such as where you had your first date, a favorite park, or hot spot. Other things to consider is the season when you will be photographed and also the time of day. So have fun and get creative! If anything, I will certainly make suggestions based on your tastes and personalities.

Now that you have picked the style you are going for and the location, it is time to figure out what to wear. While there are some general rules like no stripes or huge logos etc, have fun picking out outfits that make you look fabulous and make you feel great. Sometimes it is a good idea to bring a few different options, and you can change half way through, and in that way you will have a larger selection of amazing photos if you do.

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, and if you would like to chat further I’d love to hear from you. Engagement sessions are one of my absolute favourite sessions to cover and if you’re willing to put yourself out there and have fun then I promise you we’ll have a great time together.

We’re finally at that time of year where the weather is getting better and I can finally get out and starting shooting engagement sessions again. Here are some of my favourite images from a recent engagement session with Cara and Joel. They were so fun to work with as they are both really easy going and
and willing to try any of my ideas. Joel even put in a lot of extra work to get his rare Toyota MR2 in top shape for a few shots which was really cool, and of course Cara looks amazing posing on it.

I’m really looking forward to the wedding in the fall, so enjoy these photos for now.

In an effort to give my wedding clients the best possible experience I’ve recently added some really cool wedding thank you cards and mini albums. Part of what I’m trying to do is to give my clients options that are unique and when you look and feel them you’ll say wow! I’m sure everyone is going to love them and can’t wait to get these into my clients hands.

If you have an upcoming wedding consultation with me or if you’re planning an upcoming wedding and have any questions please let me know.

Custom print cases

April 3, 2010

When it comes to viewing your wedding images I’m still a big believer in the traditional print. There’s still something about the look and feel of holding your wedding photographs in your hand that can’t be matched by digital displays. Don’t get me wrong, I love being able to see an image in HD on my big monitor but I still feel that prints have their place. All too often most wedding clients will leave their disc of images in a drawer and those images won’t be enjoyed the way they were meant to be.

For a long time I’ve been looking for a way to provide my wedding clients with something unique and special that they could call their own when it comes to displaying their prints. What I’ve found is a custom made, 5×7 print case, that will feature two of your wedding images – one on the back cover and one on the front. Inside you’ll find either 50, 200 or 400 of your amazing wedding images beautifully finished and ready to share with your family and friends.

If you have an upcoming wedding consultation with me or would like to know more about these cases and your wedding day options, I’d love to chat.
